4–6 months before: decide and design

This is when the vision takes shape. Collect references, settle on silhouette and colour, and choose your fabric. If your outfit involves heavy embellishment or hand-work, the earlier you lock the design, the better — this is the stage that eats the most time later. Book your tailor now and get your first measurements taken while there is no pressure.

3 months before: pattern and first construction

Your tailor develops the pattern and begins constructing the base. For a lehenga, this means the skirt structure, the blouse foundation and the fall of the dupatta all start taking form. A good atelier will show you progress rather than disappearing until the end.

2 months before: the first fitting

Your first trial fitting happens here — the outfit is basted together and tried on you. This is where fit is genuinely made: the blouse adjusted to sit perfectly, the skirt length set to your heel height and your chosen footwear, the waist taken in or let out. Wear the actual undergarments and shoes you plan to use on the day. It matters more than you think.

1 month before: refinement and second fitting

Embellishment is completed and the outfit is refined. A second fitting confirms everything sits as it should now that the full weight of the work is on the garment — heavy pieces move differently once finished. Small adjustments happen now, comfortably.

2 weeks before: final fitting and collection

The last fitting is a confirmation, not a scramble. You try the completed outfit, check comfort — can you sit, walk, dance? — and take it home pressed and ready. Bodies change in the run-up to a wedding, so this final check is your safety net.
